Draw Breath, Softly for saxophone ensemble was written to give both performer and listener a space to reflect, or mediate, musically. The structure of the piece, both on the macro, and micro levels, mirrors breathing in and out through the use of dense chord structures. The increasing density of chords in the ensemble resembles that of breathing in, but as chords become more sparce it reminds one of breathing out.
